Bisleri International, one of India’s leading packaged drinking water companies, represented India at the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) Training Programme on Demonstration of Extended Producer Responsibility and Plastic Credit Systems held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 8 to 10 June 2026.

Mr. K. Ganesh, Director – Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, Bisleri International, participated as a key resource person and industry representative at the regional platform, sharing India’s practical experience in implementing Extended Producer Responsibility for plastic packaging. The programme convened senior government officials, ministers, regulators, producers, brand owners, recyclers, waste management operators, and sustainability experts from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka to exchange knowledge and strengthen circular economy frameworks across South Asia.

During the programme, Mr. Ganesh led a practitioner session titled “Experience Sharing: How Indian Producers, Importers and Brand Owners Operate under Extended Producer Responsibility”, offering detailed insights into how Producers, Importers and Brand Owners navigate India’s evolving regulatory ecosystem. The session covered registration and compliance processes through the Central Pollution Control Board portal, coordination with recyclers, aggregators, and Producer Responsibility Organisations, along with documentation and verification systems. It also addressed operational challenges including data accuracy, recycling capacity constraints, cost structures, and regulatory compliance requirements. The discussion formed a core part of the agenda focused on demonstrating India’s Extended Producer Responsibility framework and operational lessons for South Asian nations exploring similar systems.

Representatives from across South Asia also engaged in discussions on aligning Extended Producer Responsibility regulations with emerging plastic credit mechanisms, highlighting opportunities for collaboration between governments, industry stakeholders, and waste management systems to accelerate circular economy transition and improve plastic waste outcomes across the region.
